The World's First Institute for Human Spaceflight Training

THE SPACEFLIGHT INSTITUTE

  • EMBARK ON THE FUTURE OF HUMAN SPACEFLIGHT

The space industry is undergoing a profound transformation, with increasing demand for professionals trained in human spaceflight operations — a demand that current public programs alone cannot meet.

The Spaceflight Institute is committed to supporting this transition by developing specialized educational and training resources, in collaboration with leading experts from the aerospace sector.

  • BUILD LEGITIMACY THROUGH ACADEMIC PARTNERSHIPS

We are working in collaboration with academic and institutional partners to design future training programs aligned with the emerging needs of the space economy.

Our goal is to contribute to the creation of recognized training standards, modeled after best practices in other high-risk sectors.

  • LEARN FROM INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS

Our team includes space industry veterans, astronauts, scientists, engineers, and mission operators.

Whether you're an individual, a research center, or a commercial organization, the Spaceflight Institute aims to become a trusted partner in building the next generation of human spaceflight professionals.

Our Training programs

Human Factors and Performance in Extreme Environments

Completed pilot session, May 12-14 2025 in Toulouse, France

In May 2025, the Spaceflight Institute conducted its first in-person training session on Human Factors in Space, bringing together professionals and experts from the aerospace and health sectors. The program explored key topics such as cognitive workload, physiological monitoring, and decision-making in isolated and extreme environments. This pilot session allowed us to validate our pedagogical approach, refine our content, and prepare the ground for future training activities.

This program was delivered as part of a pilot initiative and is currently being integrated into the Spaceflight Institute's official training catalog in accordance with French training regulations.

Training Programs in Development

The Spaceflight Institute is currently working on new training programs dedicated to human spaceflight, including theoretical and practical components. These include modules on operations, systems, mission design, and human performance in space.

These programs are not yet open for registration and will be officially presented once fully validated and integrated into our certified training catalog, in accordance with French regulations.

For updates on upcoming training opportunities, feel free to contact us or subscribe to our newsletter.

WHAT IS A COMMERCIAL ASTRONAUT?

A commercial astronaut is a person trained to pilot a spacecraft or perform as a crew member during a space mission that is not government-funded.

These missions can take place on Earth in extreme environments to prepare for future human spaceflights, in a space station to conduct experiments or repair elements in Low Earth Orbit (space stations, telescopes, satellites), or, in the future, on a lunar or martian base.

NEED FOR A CERTIFIED PROGRAM

Since the first commercial flight in 2004, the number of commercial astronauts has increased and is expected to grow exponentially, and space agencies will be unable to meet the demand.

This is why the Spaceflight Institute has developped a complete commercial astronaut training program tailored to individuals with a scientific or technical background. Our program is designed to equip these professionals with the skills and knowledge required to become astronauts.

We are looking to fill the gap between the needs of the industries and the capacities of the agencies, while offering a recognized and legitimate certification according to FAA standards and at the postgraduate level.
